Two Creation Stories

There are numerous similarities between the Genesis creation story and the Native American creation story, not only from a religious stand point. The fact that the number 7 is used in the Native American story is very strange. Two civilizations, thousands of miles apart, use the same symbolic figures and numbers. The number 7 is used throughout the bible to represent long periods of time, and now we see that number used in other civilizations throughout the world. In the Genesis story, God created the world in seven days, creating day and night, the sun and moon, plants, animals, oceans, and finally, humans. In the Native American story, we see the seven directions creating these same things. There is a scary connection or resemblance between the two stories, one that shows the universality of religion and faith. It is very odd to see two extremely different societies with so many similar beliefs, from thousands of miles apart. Their major belief is that there is one God or Figure ruling over all the world, caring for it's people.

Yes, I agree with you that it is very strange to have two number sevens, but I put that reason to having the same god and the same beliefs. Of course, having the same exact number is an odd coincidence since these to faiths are so many miles apart. Well done Ben.

The coincidence of the number 7 occurring so many times is intriguing. Good insight.

Ben,
Just a comment on the #7. 7 is considered a "Sacred" number and generally stands for the completeness of God or the work of God. It is seen as the union of the numbers 3 and 4. One part of this is that 3 is divine in that it encompasses all of God's Spirit or creation (that which is the cosmos above us, the creation on this plane, the creation unseen beneath us). The number 4 is "us" on this planet - human beings and the rest of creation here, made up of (earth or minerals, water, air and fire). So 7 then in the union of the divine (3) and this earth (4). - The number that generally means " a long time" or a "time for completion" is "40." Remember 40 years of wandering - 40 days Jesus spent in the desert, etc.

Good analysis, but just also need to clarify that the major belief in both is that there is ONE GOD - period. The use of the words, "one God or Figure" distorts either or both faiths. Bot hare very clear in that there is one and only one God.

Peace,
DT
